Below is a table listing the hurricanes which struck the US Gulf Coast between 1950 and 2005. The right column indicates each storm's maximum overland wind speed - as measured by the Fujita scale. Clicking on the name of a hurricane takes you to a map displaying the Fujita-based wind strengths and storm surge coverage associated with the system. The wind speed results were calculated using the HURRECON model in conjunction with actual damage reports for a sample of Gulf Coast hurricanes. The surge data was estimated with the Sea, Lake, and Overland Surges from Hurricanes (SLOSH) model applied to the EGM3 basin.
